Holistic Medicine - A Whole Body Approach to Healthcare

We open the doors to better heath by redefining healthcare!

Rather than looking for someone to solve health problems, we come alongside clients in Nacogdoches, TX, to face issues using holistic medicine. We look at their overall physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional well-being to prevent and address adverse health while promoting optimal health.

Holistic medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. We use holistic medicine to treat the whole person rather than an illness. The human body has a remarkable ability to heal itself, yet many people deprive their bodies of that ability by focusing on traditional medicine and relying on drugs.

The approach to health by Salena Rothenberger, DPSc, CFMP, CHC, and her team is to use the common principles of holistic medicine and approaches, looking at all areas of health and entities that have an impact on health, such as:

  • Emotional trauma and well-being
  • Quality of sleep
  • Consumed foods
  • Self-care
  • Activity
  • Amount of stress
  • Toxic exposures

Our emphasis is on supporting the body and returning it to a healthy balance through the use of natural methods that may include:

herbal supplements

Herbal Supplements

herbal supplements or incorporating specific herbs or plants into diet

Self Care

strategies such as the emotional freedom technique (EFT/Tapping)

yoga or meditation for health

Yoga or Meditation

to help with the mind-body connection and create calmness in the spirit

The primary takeaway is that every aspect of wellness is interconnected. When one area is out of balance or damaged, the whole body will be affected, potentially causing imbalance of another element. Our holistic medicine approach is to rebalance every area harmoniously. This state is commonly referred to or described as whole-body health.

Alternative medicine is a broad term encompassing a variety of medical modalities supported by Eastern tradition and practices rather than mainstream medicine.

Examples of Alternative Medicine Include

  • Natural medicine
  • Holistic medicine
  • Acupuncture
  • Chinese medicine
  • Qi gong

The general focus of alternative medicine focuses on stimulating the body’s ability to heal itself via energy alignment, herbal supplementation, and other balancing techniques. Western mainstream or allopathic medicine focuses on symptom-specific treatment, typically using pharmaceuticals or invasive methods based on diagnosis of a disease.

Diseases are labels for clusters of symptoms rather than the actual problem. The pharmaceuticals block pathways so that symptoms decrease or stop manifesting, leaving a significant list of side effects. The result of side effects is a disregard for how the whole body is connected and the domino effect of disrupting a pathway and its unintended consequences on another routeway.

For example, statin medications are known blockers of CoQ10 that literally block the pathway in an attempt to address elevated cholesterol. The result is that cholesterol and CoQ10 levels will be negatively affected, leading to very high chances of low CoQ10 when the body cannot keep that metabolic pathway working as designed.

Why is an alternative medicine approach better for Nacogdoches clients?

Children born today experience a higher rate of sickness than the preceding generation. In fact, this is the first time in our history that children are experiencing more illnesses than their parents. In 2014, more than 50% of children had a chronic disease or were pre-diabetic, with 46% of those having multiple cases under the care and guidance of mainstream medicine!

When we ignore how the whole body is connected, the body has no other choice than to try to compensate to stay alive, placing an unnecessary burden on the body and creating illness and chronic health issues. Prior to the 20th century, diseases often contracted from poor sanitary conditions were the primary cause of death. After addressing those issues and becoming dependent on heavily processed foods stripped of nutrients and replaced with unnatural fortified nutrients, we experienced an astronomical rise in chronic health, such as:

  • Heart disease
  • Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • Other metabolic challenges

The quality of life has decreased to where more than 50% of our children take their first breath with some major health imbalance!

Natural Medicine to Help the Body Heal Itself

Natural medicine is a form of healthcare that depends on the natural healing powers of the body.

Natural medicine is the foundational concept of Functional Medicine for clients seeking a resolution to chronic health challenges. We recommend conducting due diligence when seeking a health professional to help take a natural approach to health restoration.

Taking a holistic, functional approach leads to better results, less time, and custom plans! Natural medicine systems focus on the incorporation of gentle therapeutic techniques involving the body, mind, and emotions to facilitate the healing process. Rothenberger treats the whole person rather than concentrating on a particular area or the ailment by:

Using cutting edge approaches to help you determine areas needing extra support

Identifying the foods that work best for your body

Creating a health plan that supports body healing & rejuvenation
through natural methods

We have developed customized strategies known as The Five Pillars as part of our holistic, functional approach to natural health. Our natural medicine system identifies opportunities in the following areas and creates a plan of improvement:

Nutrient testing in Nacogdoches

Learn the types from micro-to macronutrients specific
to your body
so it can thrive

Supporting detoxification

Learn different types of natural ways to support your detox and elimination pathways specific to you and your genetic profile

Learn ways to optimize your sleep & tap into the restorative and rejuvenation that happens in the parasympathetic state

When facing chronic health situations, activity and exercise can become an area that seems impossible to navigate. Understanding how activity fits into that equation to maintain harmony means we can help you support your innate healing system and maximize health!

5 Pillars of Health & Vitality

Health and vitality are not a one-size-fits-all solution. We review the five foundations of health and create a personalized strategy to meet your health goals. We dig into your history, predispositions of genetics, and epigenetic factors seeking opportunities for healing and ways to support wellness.

We review natural methods, including herbal ways to support the body to do amazing things, such as our immune system, detox system, hormone regulation, digestion, energy, and more.

The most vital part of creating health is having a healthy balance of the  sympathetic and parasympathetic states. We can have the best foods, the right amount of sleep, activity, and reduction of toxins, but if we are in a constant state of stress, the body cannot utilize the good foods or take advantage of our healthy habits. Mindfulness, stress management, or whatever you wish to call it is the glue that connects the pieces of our health puzzle together.
